Happy Holidays from SSA 27!
It is an end to another bustling year for Special Service Area (SSA) 27, and before 2023 ends, we would like to take a moment to highlight SSA 27’s contributions to the holiday season in West Lakeview.
About Special Service Area 27: Special Service Area (SSA) 27 works to make Lakeview a neighborhood where people wish to live, linger and long to return. SSAs are a funding mechanism to raise money for services to a designated mixed-use area through a property tax levy in order to supplement City services. The Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce is the Sole Service Provider for SSA 27, which was established in December 2003. It manages SSA-funded programs under the oversight of the SSA 27 Board of Commissioners.
Holiday Decorations
In 2023, SSA 27 increased its holiday decorations budget by 20% (compared to 2022) to bring in West Lakeview’s most Winterful Wonderland yet. Highlights of the decor include Winter Walks at the Southport (3410 N Southport) and Paulina (3410 N Lincoln) Low-Line Plazas, the most bright and decorated tree in West Lakeview history (1429 W Wellington Ave), and new wrapped lamp posts on Lincoln and Belmont Avenues. We encourage you to bring your family and explore SSA 27’s holiday decor while it is still up!
Lakeview Tree Lighting Ceremony
The Lakeview Tree Lighting Ceremony, funded and hosted by SSA 27, saw its 5th annual celebration in 2023. The event featured appearance by Cook County Commissioner Bridget Degnen, 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack, and SSA 27 Treasurer Helen Bailey, alongside special guests Elsa and Olaf from Disney’s Frozen and Santa Claus himself.
Community Menorah Lighting Ceremonny
The Community Menorah Lighting Ceremony, hosted by Lakeview Chabad and funded by SSA 27, saw the Jewish Community of Lakeview come together to celebrate the first night of Chanukah. The Ceremony featured speeches by SSA 27 Director Robert Morvay, Alderman Scott Waguespack, and Commissioner Mike Quigley, and featured free food, giveaways, and more festive fun than you could fill a latke with!
